Broad Experience

I'm running because:

  • the Select Board needs to plan proactively for budget stability, not just pray for more state aid while slashing local services
  • the Select Board needs someone who can heal town divisions by representing people on both sides of old battle lines
  • the Select Board needs someone who really understands the schools and their key importance to Amherst's identity

I'm in my second three-year term on the Amherst & Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committees. I chaired the Comprehensive Planning Committee -- which had from 17 - 25 voting members of rather different views -- from January 2004 until November 2006. I've volunteered with numerous kid-related programs. And as a mother in a household with two school-aged children, two working parents, and a grandparent, I understand the hopes and worries of multiple generations of Amherst residents.

I don't think we're doing enough to protect the Amherst we love, going forward. We need to work together, to plan together, and to actively manage change, rather than having it foisted upon us in ways we don't like and can't control.

The time has come to look at our community through the lens of our community-developed Master Plan. I've championed this cause since 2000 because I believe that together we can make proactive and progressive decisions that benefit our entire community. Effective government works to benefit both short-term and long-term concerns.

I will do my best to put experience, planning, energy, and common sense to work for all the people of Amherst.
